Expand Energy continues to redefine what’s possible in the field. On the Shannon Fields pad in Ohio County, West Virginia, Rig EDC 501 drilled its way into the record books — twice.
First, the Shannon Fields 3H well set a new U.S. land record for a single bit run, drilling from 2,323 feet to a total depth of 32,010 feet in less than six days. This run drilled 29,687 feet with a single bit — an incredible achievement in both efficiency and execution.
But the crew didn’t stop there. On the second well, Shannon Fields 5H, the team drilled a 25,828-foot lateral — nearly 4.9 miles of exposure to the productive Marcellus formation. This accomplishment set a new U.S. land record for lateral length.
“The SW App team has been a driving force in advancing long lateral drilling in recent years, turning past challenges into valuable insights to successfully drill, case and cement these record-breaking wells,” said Sebastian Ziaja – Senior Drilling Engineer. “These remarkable achievements were made possible through the seamless collaboration of the asset team, drilling ops team and third-party vendors, whose expertise and dedication helped to ensure precise planning and flawless execution.”
Congratulations to the SW App team – the momentum is only building.
